On launch day I reserved a Bronco. I partly did it because a non-refundable deposit is a low risk way to stunt on Facebook, but in reality I have been considering options for a new daily and the new Bronco looks sweet. So I made the reservation, joked about how I was definitely going to get one, and as more time has passed the more excited I’ve gotten about owning one.

My wife has gotten on board too and is as excited as I am. But I have some concerns - no, I don’t care that it’s an IFS and therefore not as good offro ad as a Jeep. No, I’m not one of those people that refuses to buy a first model year car. No, I don’t care that the Samsquanch package is only available with the auto, it’s a big offroad truck I’m getting an automatic.

My concern is primarily that I have no reason to believe the dealer my reservation is at will sell the car without an obscene ADM. Luckily though some intrepid individuals on the Bronco6G forum started compiling a list of dealers that have promised they won’t charge ADM, and it just so happens one of those is nearby. I’m also still slightly on the fence about 2 door v 4 door, and I wasn’t clear whether the reservation could be switched to a different layout. Naturally the solution is to reserve a second Bronco, right?

Kinja'd!!!

Today I received an email from the second dealer: they are confirming via email that they will not add ADM (though I’m skeptical there won’t be a catch somewhere), and as a bonus they’re sending a Bronco jacket to people with a reservation!

Kinja'd!!!

A salesperson even called to say hi and mention the jacket. It’s a small gesture, but between being up front about ADM (assuming they stick to it) and taking the time reach out I know where I’ll be going to buy a Bronco.

While chatting with the salesperson he did say that Ford is allowing reservation holders to switch their dealer one time via phone. So I will move my original one over and cancel the second one.

Unless the Build and Price changes things, my plan is to go Black Diamond (I want the floor plugs) in Cyber Orange with the Sasquatch package. The two door looks so much cooler than the 4, so I will likely stick with that choice. The biggest question I have there is how difficult is it to get into the back seats, and how bad is the leg room? From the pictures we’ve seen both look livable for someone who will spend most of the time in the truck alone or with my wife, with only a dog in the back seat.

How soon are you getting said jacket? Can someone reserve a Bronco, get the jacket, then cancel their reservation?

Asking for a friend, who likes jackets.

That’s a pretty cool gesture to give out jackets for reservations. I wonder how many that dealer has.

I’m really excited for the Bronco even though I work for Jeep, can’t wait to crawl around one. I don’t get the fascination with the manual. Happy they offer it but I wouldn't want one if I planned to do anything more than basic off roading.

That sounds like a great dealer. A promise to not charge a markup was probably enough to bring a lot of people to them. The extra gift is just icing on the cake. I’m honestly surprised to see it’s a jacket too. I really hope it’s a Members Only style jacket with a big embroidered Bronco on the back.

Wasn’t going to buy a Bronco, but now there’s a free jacket? Sold.

In all seriousness I’ve owned a few Jeeps previously, but actually like what they’ve done with the Bronco. Definitely the right way to revive a legacy model - ahem looking at you  Chevy.

Yeah Bronco6G has been great for that kind of thing. There’s a lot of noise but a lot of good information, too.

I reserved a 1st edition right when the system went online (and minutes before it crashed) and a Badlands the following day because I wanted a different dealer and didn’t know if we’d be able to switch dealers or models.

Turns out I was able to switch the FE to my preferred dealer (we’re in Baltimore but we’re planning on getting the Bronco from a dealer out in Kansas City [Midway Truck Center] ) and when it’s time to order I’ll be able to switch that reservation to a Badlands but I’m just going to hold on to both reservations just in case.

Going with the Badlands because I have to have that disconnecting front swaybar. We’re going to get a 2 door (to quote my wife “I would get the automatic transmission before I got a 4 door Bronco”) and probably go with the 2.3/manual. We have one kid and I can’t possible see a situation where a vehicle that’s larger than our Golf or Pajero wouldn’t cut it, and I’ll have the ZJ as a junk hauler. I don’t mind the 2.3 because it lets us get the manual and it will be, by far, the most powerful vehicle we’ve ever owned. It’s a softly sprung 4x4 so it’s not like the 2.7 will get you extra towing capacity or anything.

To make this wall of text worth it, here is a shop that a B6G m ember did for me. This is my dream color combo. Well either this or straight up midnight purple.

I’m hoping for a denim trucker jacket with the big ol bronco logo on the back.

Congrats!

The fact that they are communicating to confirm that there wouldn’t be any markup is a good sign.

I also agree that these should be bought with an auto.

I did a manual swap on my Jeep that spends most of its time on trails. 12/10 would go manual again and again on a trail rig. First gear, low range, let the clutch out and all you have to do is steer and idle over whatever’s in front of you. Automatics on rocks/logs/steep hills are like driving a rubber band. Tire hits rock, you stop, you add throttle, the converter grabs, you sligshot violently over the rock, repeat until you have motion sickness and broken axles . Autos SUCK offroad.

A ssuming the Cyber orange is the same colour they offer on the Ranger, I would just suggest checking it out in person on the truck. I wanted a Ranger in that colour but in person it seemed darker and less vibrant and kinda killed my want for it.

Besides that, I think it’s a good choice. I’m in the same camp in that I don’t care that the Bronco has IFS vs a solid axle; in fact, I prefer that given that I’ll never rock crawl. I don’t have a reservation but will be sure to check them out when they hit dealers.

2-door was the right pick

I wonder if someday when a few of these things are in every junkyard it’ll be possible to get a manual Bronco and install Sasquatch package bits from wrecked Broncos... I really like the new Bronco, but as usual I can’t option the exact configuration I actually want, so all I can do is fantasize about building it myself.

I got that same dealer email—I believe the message said jacket goes to completed delivery/purchase.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but you (I mean your friend) can go on liking jackets.

They made it sound like the jackets were coming pretty soon. I would assume you could  do such a thing, if you were so inclined.

A members only jacket would be perfect Cars & Coffee gear for this

Personally not a fan of the red on purple, but the purple does look nice. That cutaway door is like 75% of the reason I want the two door, it would be so great in the summer and looks so silly on the 4 door.

Hmm, good thought on the color. I’ll have to go check it out. I would probably switch over to Cactus Grey if the orange looks meh in the sun.

Undoubtedly. Also with the response I’ll be a bit surprised if they don’t end up offering it, at least in the 2022 model year. I don’t even recall how extensive the Sasquatch changes are, it may not be that difficult to replicate with the aftermarket/dealer accessories.

Perfect to toss over the shoulder of the crybaby doll you lean against the tire.

True. I’ve also been thinking of doing something like this with a Fiat 500x and installing the off-road goodies from a Jeep Renegade since they’re built on the same platform... But that would be a lot of effort for just a different-looking Renegade.. . Also I can afford neither so it’s a moot point anyway ;)
